Murmur is built so that the answer to "what happens to my recordings" is as simple as possible: they stay on your phone. This page explains exactly what that means, for both the app and this website.
When you record a voice note, everything that happens to it — transcription, mood tagging, title generation — runs using Apple's on-device Speech and Natural Language frameworks. None of it is sent to Murmur, to Apple, or to anyone else. There's no server. Your audio and the text it becomes are stored locally on your device using Apple's on-device storage (SwiftData), and nothing syncs to any cloud service.
Specifically, Murmur does not collect, transmit, or have access to:
There's no account to create and no login — Murmur has no way to identify you, because it never talks to a server that could.
Microphone — used only while you're actively recording a voice note, so it can be turned into a written entry. Speech recognition — used to transcribe that recording, entirely on-device. Notifications — if you turn on the daily reminder, it's scheduled locally on your device; Murmur doesn't use push notifications and has no server that could send one.
If you use the export feature in Settings, Murmur hands your entries and audio files to iOS's native share sheet — the same one used by every app. Where those files go from there (Files app, AirDrop, email, etc.) is entirely your choice; Murmur doesn't upload them anywhere itself.
If you join the waitlist on murmur's landing page, the email address you enter is sent to Formspree, a third-party form service, so we can let you know when the app is available. That's the only thing this website collects. We don't use analytics or tracking cookies here. See Formspree's own privacy policy for how they handle submitted data.
Murmur doesn't knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13 — since it doesn't collect information from anyone at all.
If anything here changes — for instance, if a future version of Murmur adds an optional cloud sync feature — this page will be updated first, with a new "last updated" date above.
